LINKS
Joining a writing group can connect you with other people who share your passion.  It can also help you learn about the business end of your chosen genre.  Here are some of my favorite professional organizations for writers:

Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators
SCBWI is the professional organization for people who write and/or illustrate for young readers, babies through teens.  If you're serious about breaking into the children's market, this group can provide a lot of information and support.

Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators - Wisconsin Chapter
Wisconsin has a wonderfully strong, active, and supportive chapter of SCBWI.  I've found publishers, my agent, my fantastic critique group, and lots of friends here.

Mystery Writers of America
MWA is the top organization for mystery writers, aspiring writers, and anyone else devoted to the genre.

Women Writing the West
WWW is a wonderful organization of strong, creative women who write stories set in the Western United States, past and present.  I'm proud to be President-Elect of this group.

Historical Novel Society
If you write historical fiction, this is the group for you.  Membership brings a magazine, reviews, and the opportunity to attend great conferences.
