  Author Presentation - Children's Literature Conference - Sturgeon Bay WI

Write On, Door County logoWrite On, Door County is sponsoring WRITING ON THE DOOR: Chlidren's Literature Conference in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on the weekend of April 6-8, 2018. The conference intends to bring together "some of the region’s best writers of picture books, chapter books, and young adult literature for two-and-a-half days of presentations and workshops."

Kathleen has been invited to conduct a workshop entitled The Craft And Art of Children's Historical Fiction from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, Friday, April 6th at the Stone Harbor Resort, 107 North 1st Avenue, in Sturgeon Bay.

Anyone writing historical fiction must blend and balance good storytelling with solid research. This presentation will explore the genre’s inherent challenges, and provide specific techniques for creating compelling and authentic stories.

That afternoon Kathleen will also take part in an Author Panel Discussion along with John Coy, Mary Losure, and James Mihaley. It will run from 1:00 to 2:15 PM in the Peninsula Room, at the Door County Government Center, 421 Nebraska Street, in Sturgeon Bay.

  Author Program - A Settler's Year: Pioneer Life Through The Seasons - Mequon WI

Trinity Lutheran Church Friestadt logo.Join bestselling author Kathleen Ernst on a picturesque illustrated journey through the seasonal experiences that shaped the lives of Wisconsin's European and Yankee settlers. She will be the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the Trinity Freistadt Historical Society on Monday, April 16th. Kathleen's hour-long presentation will begin at 7:00 PM.

It's a trip Ernst that navigates well -- as both a former curator at Old World Wisconsin and as the author of A Settler's Year: Pioneer Life through the Seasons (Wisconsin Historical Society Press).

Kathleen will also address the history of German immigrants to Wisconsin at the beginning of the American Civil War, which she explored in A Memory of Muskets, the seventh book in her award-winning Chloe Ellefson Historic Sites mystery series. 

Afterwards she will answer audience questions, and sign books (copies will be available for purchase).

Kathleen is a frequent guest on Wisconsin Public Radio's The Larry Meiller Show, and last year her Chloe Ellefson mystery, A Memory of Muskets, was read by Jim Fleming on WPR's Chapter A Day program. 

Kathleen writes mysteries as well as historical fiction and non-fiction for adults and young readers. Her work has earned numerous honors, including an Emmy, a Children's Literature Award from the Society of Midland Authors, an Anne Powers Prize for Best Fiction Book as well as five Arthur Tofte Juvenile Literature Awards from the Council for Wisconsin Writers, and nominations for an Edgar Allan Poe and four Agatha Christie mystery awards.

To date readers have purchased over 1.7 million copies of Kathleen's thirty-six published books.

  Malice Domestic 30 - Traditional Mystery Conference - Bethesda MD

Malice Domestic mystery conference logo.Established in 1989, Malice Domestic is an annual "fun fan" convention saluting the traditional mystery—books best typified by the works of Agatha Christie. The genre is loosely defined as mysteries with no explicit sex or excessive gore or violence.

Kathleen will be on the Antiquities panel, scheduled for 9:00-9:50 AM, Saturday the 28th. Also participating will be Jane Cleland, Shelley Costa, Mary Anna Evans, Anne Reece (Moderator) and Eileen Macintire.

Kathleen will also be signing her latest Chloe Ellefson mystery, Mining For Justice. Time and place TBA.

Photographer unknown.Kathleen and 'Mr. Ernst' will be unavailable from May 30th through June 15th conducting research for what will become the as-of-yet unnamed tenth book in the Chloe Ellefson Historical Sites mystery series, which is being developed for release in 2019.

A house sitter will be present at their home, but the office will be closed.
