Places
Villa Louis Historic Site is located in Prairie du Chien, Southwest Wisconsin. It sits on the Mississippi River shore close to the confluence with the Wisconsin River. French voyageurs founded the settlement in 1673. As the second oldest community in the state, its human history provides centuries of stories to explore.
The Villa Louis itself is a Victorian estate beautifully restored to its 1890s appearance, and is one of the most authentic historic sites in the U.S. A small stone building standing nearby is often overlooked, but it once held a bustling fur trade post. The post provides insight into the fur trade, which historically dominated life in the area. Delphine’s father runs a similar post.
