AUTHOR'S NOTE

When I was a kid, my parents always made sure there were lots of books in the house. I used to read with a flashlight when I was supposed to be asleep. Books are like magic carpets that whisked me away to other times and places. They can be wonderful company, too. When I began writing books, my greatest wish was that my stories might bring young readers some excitement and companionship. If they also sparked an interest in history and/or writing, then even better!
